World's tallest building opens in Dubai

The world’s tallest building, the Burj Dubai, opens with an elaborate inauguration ceremony later today Monday 4th January 2010.

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum will launch the skyscraper with a spectacular laser and firework display. From tomorrow, the public will be allowed on to the observation deck on level 124 of the tower.

The Burj is twice the height of the Empire State Building reaching at least 2,683ft. However, its exact height remains a secret and will be revealed at the inauguration event.

The $1.5 billion tower, houses the world’s first Armani hotel, exclusive Armani apartments and 37 floors of offices. The first residents of the apartments will move in in February and the hotel will open in March.
